Trail Overview

Dilly Dillard is a scenic, moderately challenging forest road ideal for intermediate offroaders seeking a fast-paced drive with a few technical elements. This 6.5-mile trail winds through rolling backcountry terrain, climbing to a maximum elevation of 4,006 feet while connecting Loon Lake Road to the Missezula Lake Recreation Site. The first 3.7 miles of the route feature a well-graded gravel surface punctuated by occasional mud and shallow puddles, allowing for smooth travel. As the trail progresses, however, the conditions shift significantly due to natural erosion, transforming the route into a more technical driving experience. Beyond the 3.7-mile mark, drivers will navigate water erosion that escalates into a narrow, off-camber shelf road with a steep drop-off on the left. Silt from water runoff piles up heavily on the right side of the track, demanding careful tire placement and a capable high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicle to safely manage the off-camber sections. Drivers should remain alert for free-roaming cattle that frequently wander onto the road, and be prepared for changing conditions near the southern end of the trail near Missezula Lake.

Difficulty

Expect moderate water erosion initially. The trail then follows a narrow shelf road with a drop-off to the left. Erosion has deposited silt along the uphill (right) side, resulting in an off-camber section and a narrower travel corridor.
