Bird Sanctuary Loop

The Bird Sanctuary Loop in Griffith Park is an easy 1.2-mile hike in Los Angeles. It consists of a mix of single and double-track dirt trails and is primarily used for hiking, running, and viewing nature. It is a family-friendly route that is easily accessible to most people regardless of their athletic ability. From Vermont Avenue, the loop runs parallel to the road and starts with a gentle incline. In about half a mile, you will come to the Bird Sanctuary, an enclosed, scenic area that feels like a refuge for birds and humans alike. Located within a wooded canyon, this area features a small seasonal stream and a winding dirt path that circumnavigates an important habitat for a number of bird species, including robins, wrens, sparrows, crows, blackbirds, and more. This trail is relatively short and flat, but it offers scenic views, picnic benches, and peaceful surroundings.
