Description
Griffith Park features a number of different trails to explore and this loop has become one of the most popular to experience the park and its terrain.Start from the Glendale Peak Trailhead and parking area off Vermont Canyon Rd. and head east on the Riverside Trail. This trail is a gradual start to the climb up to Glendale Peak and Mount Hollywood. It ends after ~1 mile. Take a sharp left onto the East Ridge (Hogback) Trail and head around Glendale Peak looking for Henry's Trail off to the right. Head out on this singletrack until it tops out on the highpoint of Glendale Peak. Return the way you came to the East Ridge (Hogback) Trail and continue north and west along the ridgeline with beautiful views on either side. Toward the end of this trail look for the left turn onto the Lower Mount Hollywood Trail to check out Dante's View. This featured hike doesn't include this out-and-back option but it is worth the short trip. From the west end of East Ridge (Hogback) Trail, turn left onto the Mount Hollywood Summit Trail as it gradually ascends the final pitch to the top of Mount Hollywood. Enjoy the breathtaking 360deg views and look out over all you've accomplished up until this point. From the top, head south on the Mount Hollywood Summit Trail as it dives steeply toward the Bird Sanctuary Trail. Be careful on this section as it is very steep and loose. There are alternate routes if this seems unfeasible. From the Bird Sanctuary Trail, it's a half mile back to Vermont Canyon Road and then a hundred yards on the road back to your vehicle.
