Right Fork Maple Canyon Trail #007

This is trail takes you on a moderately-challenging journey up to Spanish Fork Peak. It is not nearly as crowded as some of the other hikes in the area (I'm talking about you, Timpanogos), but not remote enough that you'll be completely isolated. The first half of the trail is pretty well-shaded, but after that you are out in the open. Keep an eye out for wildflowers along the trail as well, and enjoy the aspen groves and fir stands! The grade is fairly consistent, until a couple of sections near the end, where it can get pretty steep. In early June parts of the trail near the end were still covered in large snow patches, so you may have to get a little creative to get around them or be careful while crossing them. Before reaching the top, there is a picturesque little pond. The water can be somewhat stagnant, but you may happen to see hordes of small butterflies flitting around near patches of mud. This can be a good stopping point for group members who may not be up to making the steep ascent to the peak. At the top there are nice views of the surrounding valley, as well as a mailbox with a logbook in it. Enjoy the view, sign the log, and head back down.
