Description
Easily ranking as one of Wisconsin's more popular sections of trail for good reason, this trail has it a lot to love: challenging climbs through Rocky Mountain style terrain near Devil's Lake, the lake itself, stunning views of some of Wisconsin's more respectable topography of the Baraboo Range, dense forests, interesting rock formations, and camping. It's important to note that the Ice Age Trail ends up overlapping a few of the trails in the park. There are trail signs posted with the park names, as well as the yellow blazes that demarcate the Ice Age Trail. Use the Mobile App to help with navigation. Actually, despite the popularity of Devil's Lake and Devil's Lake State Park, some sections of the Ice Age Trail in this segment see relatively low traffic. Really, the trail only gets busy on the West and East Bluffs and really only immediately around the lake on summer weekends. Otherwise, the trail can often be tranquil. There are some flat sections of trail, but also plenty of steep and sustained climbs (where the trail crosses the West Bluff and the Balanced Rock Trail). There is access to other trails as well. Overall, the scenery is some of the best in Wisconsin.
