This route begins near Chauncy Street in Westborough, MA, and winds through the varied terrain of the Westboro Wildlife Management Area. From the trailhead, head east toward the lake, staying right at each of the next five junctions to remain close to the water’s edge. At the sixth junction, turn left through an open field, then take another left to head west into the interior of the management area.
Continue by staying left at the next two junctions. After that, make a sharp right and follow the main trail as it winds past two more trail intersections. The route then transitions to an old road grade, gradually curving past two additional junctions. Turn right again and follow the trail until it reaches Rice Lane. From here, head east and then south, passing a small pond before returning to the starting point. The route stays mostly level but includes uneven tread, seasonal mud, and several unmarked junctions—GPS navigation is recommended. Along the way, hikers pass restored wildlife meadows, a chestnut orchard, and historic stone foundations from the former Lyman School. This low-elevation route offers strong wildlife viewing and a quiet walk through varied habitat near Chauncy Lake.
