Description
Turkey Trail, aka "the Pink Trail" from the commonly available color-coded trail map, is another fine trail at the Dry Creek Trail System. Turkey Trail begins and ends connected to the long-distance Pinhoti Trail. It is bi-directional, with the gradients being slightly easier hiking it east to west. At either end, it begins with a short climb, then descends, then climbs and descends again. It crosses a gravel forest service road at about the midpoint, but the trail is very well marked. The surface is generally machine-cut, dirt surface that holds up extremely well even in wet conditions, like most of the trails at Dry Creek. There is nothing too technical on the trail surface itself. This is a great trail for hiking up and down and enjoying scenery. Like all the trails at Dry Creek, this is a multi-use trail also very popular with equestrians and bikers, especially on weekends. The convention of course is to always yield to horses. There are multiple access points for this trail. There is a large parking area in the middle of the Dry Creek complex accessible via FS 226 off of East Armuchee Rd. This parking area requires a $5 per day parking fee and also includes bathroom facilities. There is also an alternate trailhead parking area where the Pinhoti meets East Armuchee Rd, about 0.2 miles west of the west end of Turkey Trail.
