Description
While the Outer Woodland Loop is located in the city limits of Pinetop, it is a part of the Apache Sitgreaves National Forest. This trail has the aura of a Northern Arizona hike with the presence of the Ponderosa Pine. This 3.8-mile trail consists of one main loop attached to a small loop. The trail is relatively flat and makes for a wonderful trail to take the family on. The trail leaves out of Woodland Park where there is a small lake and play areas for families to enjoy before or after hiking. The area is a great place for families to get outside. Hikers will leave the parking lot and move along the trail in a counterclockwise direction. Hikers will enjoy the Hitching Post Trail for the first 1.3 miles. The trail starts off with a small creek crossing that should have water flowing until midsummer. The trail slightly declines but is mostly wide and hikers can walk two people across without issues. Once they reach the connector trail, they will take a left and then follow the small loop of the Bog Springs Trail. This trail passes a beautiful mash area that should have water in it until at least mid-summer. Once hikers wrap back to the main trail, they will again take a left where they meet the Turkey Trot trail which they will take back to the trailhead. Hikers will want to take a right 0.4 miles after they return to the mail trail to follow Walnut Creek. This provides a chance for hikers to follow flowing water. The last half of a mile mirrors the same scenery of the first portion of the trail where hikers should enjoy the last bit of Ponderosa Pines. This trail is a wonderful chance to get explore the trails of Pinetop and Northern Arizona.
