Description
Poll Knoll is a trail system maintained by Apache-Sitgreaves USFS consisting of miles of mostly doubletrack through ponderosa, aspen, fir and spruce-lined forest. It is a four season destination and an excellent spot in the winter for snowshoeing and cross country skiing. Elevation gains are moderate, but base elevations up here are high (>8000 ft) so oxygen is a premium. Trail difficulty is really intermediate for most trails and the one outlined here but upgrade rating based on altitude. Summer and fall have excellent mountain biking but monsoon afternoon thunderstorms are common early July through late September, so arrive before 11 AM or late in the day during that season.
