There and Back
The Thompson Trail 629 is a simple out and back trail along the West Fork Black River. It is located within Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest. Trailhead parking has space for about 5-7 cars right on the side of the road. The trail begins on the other side of West Fork Black River on the left. There is a small wood sign. The trail drops down off the fireroad and down toward the river. There is no stream crossings and is very scenic as the trail follows the river. The trail closely follows the river for about 2.5 miles and ends at a confluence with an unnamed side stream that empties in the West Fork Black River. Return the way you came in.
