Lake Mistletoe Track

The Lake Mistletoe Track is an easy hike located in Fiordland National Park near Te Anau, Southland. This trail travels through the forest to a viewing point of Lake Mistletoe. The trail is mostly dirt but has a section of boardwalk. This loop is 1 mile long and gains 118 feet of elevation. This hike starts from a parking area off of Te Anau Milford Hwy. Begin hiking south on Lake Mistletoe Track. The trail takes you through a beautiful forest. After about 0.2 miles, the trail opens up and you get your first glimpse of Mistletoe Lake. On a clear day, you also have mountain views in the distance. Another 0.1 miles will bring you to a junction. Turn right here onto a short boardwalk. This boardwalk will bring you to your best view of the lake. After taking in the views, head back to the last junction and turn right. The trail quickly heads back into the woods. You are provided with periodic views of Lake Mistletoe. Continue through the forest and near wetlands for 0.4 miles. Here, you will hike across a bridge over a small creek. Another 0.1 miles will bring you to Te Anau Milford Hwy. Take a left here. Hike on the trail next to the highway. After about 0.1 miles, you will pass Fiordland National Park Lodge on the other side of the road. Another 0.1 miles will bring you back to the parking area where you began the hike. Fiordland National Park is open for hiking year round. There are no associated fees to hike here. Dogs are not allowed on this trail. The Lake Mistletoe track is a great option for those looking to stretch their legs on the way to or from Milford Sound.
