Bald Eagle Prairie Preserve

Bald Eagle Prairie Preserve is a short and easy hike at the Bald Eagle Section of Bald Eagle-Otter Lakes Regional Park near White Bear Lake, MN. This out-and-back trail explores forest, prairie, and includes lake views. This hike is 1.6 miles long and gains less than 70 feet of elevation. This hike begins at the Bald Eagle Section parking lot. There are lots of spaces in this parking lot. There are also flush toilets located here. Begin hiking north on a paved trail. This trail parallels the road. After 0.2 miles, cross Overlake Ave and begin hiking on a wide mowed grass trail.Now you will be hiking through a restored prairie. Be on the lookout for wildflowers, butterflies, and birds. Hike 0.4 more miles before entering a forested area. You will encounter a fork in the trail and go left. Walk along a wide trail through deciduous trees for 0.1 miles.From here, take a right on a slightly overgrown trail through shrubs. After 0.1 miles, you will reach the shore of Bald Eagle Lake. From here, you will have wonderful views of the lake, and you can even see a house on the island. Enjoy the lake views, and take some time to rest before retracing your steps to return to the trailhead.Bald Eagle Prairie Preserve is open year-round, but is not plowed in the winter. There are no associated fees to hike at Bald Eagle-Otter Lakes Regional Park. Dogs are allowed on this hike, but they must be on a leash at all times. There are other hiking options available at Bald Eagle Section, so be sure to take a look at the map near the parking lot. Bald Eagle Prairie Preserve is a great option for those in and around the White Bear Lake area looking for a quick and easy hike.
