Description
This hike is a 1.4-mile loop through Lochness Park in the city of Blaine, Minnesota. The hike takes one past Lochness Lake and through prairie habitat and forested areas of hardwoods that include oak, aspen, ash, and maple trees. There are no fees to use this park. Dogs are allowed on the trails in Lochness Park when on leash. This trail is paved with asphalt except for a small section that is a boardwalk. Parking for Lochness Park is located off Lexington Avenue just north of 109th Avenue NE.To take this hike in a counter clockwise direction, start at the south end of the parking lot and head southeast towards buildings for private business. In a short distance there is a spur trail to the left that leads to a fishing pier. The first half mile of this hike is near Lochness Lake and there are several spots to view the lake. At the 0.6-mile mark there is an intersection, taking the trail to the left leads directly back to the parking lot. Instead take a right. The trail leaves the lake and now runs through fairly open prairie habitat. After walking for nearly a mile, there will be a spur trail to the right that leads to a neighborhood. There is a disc golf course that winds its way through this portion of the park. The last half mile has more trees and leads back to the parking lot. This is a popular hike for nearby residents. This trail is paved and very level which makes it suitable for all abilities.
