Johnson Canyon starts just outside of Snow Canyon State Park and heads east toward a small canyon that is very popular with tourists and locals alike. The high sandstone cliffs hold a decent sized arch within its confines, which is a rare treat in the park and adds to the interesting desert geology that the area has in abundance. The trail leading to the canyon is also pretty and sits above a deep ravine from previous heavy rains. The views toward the south are wide and sweeping with the edges of the Red Cliffs Desert Reserve in the distance. Just like anything nearby this hike can get super hot, so having a hat and water is a must. Even though the trailhead is outside the tollbooth at the park entrance, it's still within the official boundaries. This short hike is very family friendly, and you can even bring your dog on a leash.
