Description
Mill Creek Falls is on a beautiful trail in the Bitterroot Mountains that makes for a scenic day hike. You start in a parking area at the Miller Creek Trailhead with access to picnic tables and a vault toilet. Right when you arive you can hear the creek running rhythmically next to your car. The trail has a slight incline, but it is not a strenous one. The total elevation gain to get to Miller Creek Falls is only 650 feet. The start of the trail is more shaded and hugs the creek, but once you cross Miller Creek via a bridge the trail becomes more exposed an gets a lot hotter. The area has a burn scar, and while the trees are returning, they aren't big enough to offer a lot of shade. This allows for fantastic unobstructed views of the high alpine peaks of the Bitterroot Mountains. The canyon walls are awe-inspiring as they tower over you on either side the entire trail. During the spring runoff there are multiple waterfalls to behold cascading down the cliff sides. Be careful not to trip because the trail has many exposed roots and rocks! Once you reach the Selway Bitterroot Wilderness sign you'll be very close to the waterfall, about a mile away. Be careful not to slip once you reach the falls because the surrounding rocks do not grip very well. This hike does not lack for views!
