There and Back
The Canyon Creek Trail follows the canyon from the Blodgett Overlook Trailhead. Even though the term "creek" is in the name, you cannot see the creek that often along the trail. Luckily the trail is in the shade entirely for the first 3.5 miles, so go ahead and bring the dogs! It starts off easily enough with its ups and downs, but once you get to the last mile and a half the trail goes straight up and is a little difficult to follow. Keep an eye out for rock carins to mark the way, but the general consesus is to just keep going up. You'll hit the high point and then drop back down a few hundred feet toward the lake. The lake is a stunning crystal clear blue, and Canyon Peak towering behind it is breathtaking. If you're inclined to bring your fishing rod, you won't be disappointed. There are tons of rainbow and western cutthroat trout just waiting to be caught. In the spring, waterfalls abound to add to the splendor. Moose, bear, wolves, and deer frequent this lake, so be prepared to see some great wildlife. This hike is entirely worth the effort!
