Description
The Northwoods Trail is the longest of the hiking trails inside SkyPark at Santa's Village. At 1.3 miles, the trail follows a single track path through the forest, at points running adjacent to some of the Bike Park features and offering hikers the chance to watch riders race down some of the wooden ramp features. Though the trail soon splits from the dense bike paths and heads deeper into the forest. Following a course that meanders over streams, beneath dense tree coverage, around Ladybug Pond, and back into the mountainous forest, the Northwoods Trail offers park visitors the best chance to get deeper into the woods and into a more natural setting. While the route itself is fairly easy, the trail does follow the landscape as it drops in elevation, before turning back and slowly climbing back up, however all elevation change is gradual, and this trail should be fine for most abillity levels. There are mulitple points where the hiking trail intersects or crosses with cycling trails. Most of these are signed well, though with the occasional cyclist riding by, sometimes at higher speeds, hikers should grab a trail map from the admissions counter, which will help clear up any confusion while out on the path. While the trail can be accessed from the main cycling trailhead beside the Pub, hikers can also access the trail from right before the archery range, which will eliminate most of the length of multi-use path that needs to be shared with cyclists. The last portion of the trail from Ladybug Pond is on a paved access road that soon meets up with the Meadowland path leading back to the main park area. All park guidelines can be found at SkyPark's website.
