There and Back
Devils Hole is a perfect summer swim spot in Deep Creek. Requiring a further hike than the nearby Aztec Falls, this swimming hole is less crowded and even more rewarding. It is roughly 3 miles along the Pacific Crest Trail, hiking northward from Splinter's Cabin Trailhead. All along the way are beautiful swimming holes, so you can make an entire day of the out-and-back journey. Some of the descents to the water can be treacherous, and the trail itself is narrow in some places, so watch your footing. You will know you are near Devils Hole when the trail intersects an OHV road. Turn right here and follow the road a short distance toward the river, then pick your way down a final steep section to water level. The hike is well worth it. Everyone will enjoy a cool soak in Devils Hole, but thrill-seekers will especially enjoy the cliff jumping. Ledges of various heights line the deep pool, though not every spot is deep enough to jump, so use caution and spot the landing.
