Red Rock Trail

The Red Rock Trail is a short but enjoyable paved greenway through the small town of Sutherlin, Oregon. The main section of trail stretches from Waite Street to South State Street and is just over 1 mile in length, round trip. The path can also be continued east of Waite Street for a distance.If beginning from Waite Street, you'll find ample parking on the gravel road near the trail. The path then begins by passing beside a small pond and wetland area named after Wayne Calder. Wildlife can often be found here, mostly birds and amphibians, so be sure to keep an eye out!The pathway continues it's peaceful meander next to Sutherlin Creek as it passes by the city festival grounds. You'll pass by restrooms and a covered picnic area, as well as a nice open grassy area for recreation. There is even a sand volleyball court here.Along the way be sure to keep an eye out for Sutherlin's famous Flag Monuments. Scattered throughout town and along this path are monuments that recognize all the versions of the flag that our country has had. Did you know that there have been 28 different versions of the American Flag? Or that one of these flags had an extra 2 stripes (15 total)? Look for these monuments to learn more about the history of our flag.The Red Rock Trail continues until it reaches South State Street and the Sutherlin Fire Station. This is the end of the trail. Return the way you came.
