Description
Merced Lake Loop is a 35-mile route located in Yosemite National Park. The route starts from Tuolumne Meadows and heads southwest towards Merced Lake. This adventure features alpine lakes, jagged peaks, and lush meadows. The route follows well maintained singletrack trails and is accessible for hikers, trail runners, and backpackers. DIRECTIONSStart at Tuolumne Meadows and follow the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) / John Muir Trail (JMT) south. At the junction with the Ireland Lake Trail, turn right and head west towards Vogelsang High Sierra Camp. Follow the signs to Vogelsang Pass and then continue southwest to reach Merced Lake and the Merced Lake High Sierra Camp. From Merced Lake, follow the Fletcher Creek Trail northeast to Vogelsang Camp. Then take Rafferty Creek Trail back to PCT / JMT and head north to Tuolumne Meadows. TUOLUMNE MEADOWS TRAILHEADTuolumne Meadows is a fantastic base camp for adventurers and first time visitors of Yosemite National Park. Several trails lead in and out of this area including the Pacific Crest Trail and John Muir Trail. MERCED LAKE HIGH SIERRA CAMPThe Merced Lake High Sierra Camp is one of the most remote of the High Sierra Camps in Yosemite National Park. Its proximity to Merced Lake makes it an ideal location for swimming, relaxing, fishing, and camping.
