Point to Point
This moderate route begins just off Deep Creek Road at an unsigned pullout and forms a quiet loop through rolling terrain in the northern section of the Mount Haggin Wildlife Management Area. Using a combination of unmaintained trails, old two-tracks, and cross-country travel, the route weaves through broad meadows and timber patches without climbing to high ridgelines. After a gentle ascent from the trailhead, the loop crosses California Creek and later Crooked John Creek, both of which typically flow through early summer and may dry up by fall.
The route travels through excellent elk and moose habitat, with frequent signs of wildlife and occasional sightings, especially during morning and evening hours. Bald eagles and other raptors are often spotted overhead. Navigation is unmarked and off-trail in places—carrying a GPS or map and compass is essential. The area is open seasonally from May 16 through November 30, with no motorized use off designated roads. With its quiet basins, seasonal wildflowers, and wide-open feel, this route offers a peaceful walk through classic Montana wildlife country.
