Flying Mountain Trail

From the parking lot, you'll see two trailheads; Flying Mountain is the closest to the road. This trail has a number of stone steps right from the start, making it fairly easy to find. The short trail takes you to a beautiful overlook of a small town and waterways. To the east, you'll be overlooking Somes Sound and Northeast Harbor. Enjoy the scenic views, as many of the other trails look the opposite direction! Most of your journey will take you under fairly dense tree cover, which provides shade in the summer months and a colorful hike in the fall. All of those trees also mean that there are plenty of roots, so keep an eye out for them. Don't forget to find the 1934 Reference Marker before heading back down to your vehicle!
