Description
These directions are from the Parkman Mt. Parking area. You can also park at the Norembega parking area and pick up the Hadlock Brook Trail from there. From Parkman Mt. Parking follow the carriage road to the right. You'll pass intersections for Parkman Mountain Trail and Bald Peak Trail and then take the Hadlock Brook Trail. Follow the trail until the split. Stay to the left on the Maple Spring Trail "Toward Sargent Mountain".Maple Spring Trail follows and crosses over a brook eventually arriving at the Hemlock Bridge of the "Around the Mountain" carriage road loop. At this point you can make your way up to the carriage road and follow the carriage road to the right for a short way to come to the Hadlock Falls and Waterfall Bridge. This bridge is built at an angle to give a view of the falls when you climb down the trail towards Hadlock Brook to see this view. The falls flow strongest in the spring or after a heavy rain. Follow the carriage road back to the Hemlock Bridge and take the trail down and under the bridge to continue.Just past the bridge is a sign for Bald Peak and Parkman Mountain. Take this trail, which is the Giant Slide Trail, to the left. This rocky trail runs between Bald Peak and Parkman on one side and Gilmore Peak and Sargent Mountain on the other. This part of the trail is not well marked with blue blazes. Follow the stream bed and eventually cross over it. Take the trail to left at the sign post for Parkman Mountain. This trail climbs straight up the back of Parkman. It's a little steep and there's some scrambling. The views from the top include Upper Hadlock Pond, Northeast Harbor, Norumbega, Sargent, and Gilmore. Follow the Parkman Mountain Trail crossing over Upper Mountain carriage road and then joining up with the Hadlock Loop carriage road to return to the parking area. There are many places to capture great views along the route down.
