Description
This popular circles a wide area of land and terrain, making use of multiple trails and multi-use paths, and passing by a number of city parks. While there's a good probability of encountering plenty of other walkers, runners, cyclists and equestrians along the trail, there are also areas where you might find yourself taking in the wide views of North Orange County seemingly with no one else around. There are plenty of areas to access the trail, however a popular one is the lower parking area of the Fullerton Courthouse. From here, the Juanita Cooke Greenbelt Trail follows the path of a former railroad line that these days is a wide dirt route with a gentle grade. Stretching between the courthouse and Laguna Lake Park, this may be the busiest stretch of the trail. From here, a combination of equestrian paths, paved walkways through parks and green spaces, dirt tracks running beside disused railroad tracks, and hilly climbs along dirt multi use paths make up the route. The trail passes by several city parks, one of which - Laguna Lake Park - has bathrooms and water fountains. As the loop path is a patchwork of trails, having the GPS track to follow is useful, though it's also easy to modify your choice of trails to best fit your desired distance. One additional loop takes hikers out of the single track and onto horse trails running beside city streets and up to the Panorama Park Summit Trail, the highest point in the city which offers views in every directions, including Catalina Island and the Hollywood Sign on clear days. This portion of the trail makes up just over 4 miles in distance. Many of the trails and parks are open from sunrise to sunset. Those not wanting to cover the whole distance can pick and choose a shorter combination of trails. This route is a very popular cycling route, and there's also a good chance you'll see equestrians on the path as well.
