Description
Owen's Loop is a moderately challenging hike located near St. George, Utah. This hike offers great views of St. George and the surrounding desert landscape. Though named Owen's Loop, this trail is mostly an out-and-back with a very short loop at the end. This hike is about 2.7 miles and gains just over 370 feet of elevation.This hike begins at Brooks Nature Park. Start hiking uphill on the Brooks Nature Trail. After 0.2 miles you will reach a junction and take a left to stay on the Brooks Nature Trail. At this time, you will have views of the Dixie Sugarloaf, a St. George landmark.You will now have great views of St. George as you hike along beautiful red rock cliffs. The trail here can be rock at times and may require careful footwork. After another 0.5 miles, you will reach a junction. Stay left to take the Owen's Loop Trail. Look out for cairns as this trail can be hard to follow at times.Continue along the red rock cliffs as you enjoy expansive views of the Pine Valley Mountains and the surrounding Mojave Desert. After hiking another 0.5 miles, you will reach the beginning of the small loop at the end of the Owen's Loop Trail. Stay right to take the loop counterclockwise. This 0.2 mile loop features views of Red Hills Golf Course and beautiful red rock cliffs. Once you have completed the loop, retrace your steps to return to the trailhead.Owen's Loop is open year-round and does not have any associated fees. Dogs are allowed on this trail. This trail has no shade and can get very hot, so be sure to bring plenty of water. Mountain bikers also use this trail often. Owen's Loop is a scenic and easily accessible trail that is worth hiking for anyone in the St. George area.
