Description
We started from the parking lot just north of the Visitor's Center and started on the Peach Creek Loop Trail heading along the creek towards the south. This portion of the trail is very sandy and has some topographic variations and massive tangled roots due to its proximity to the creek. About 0.5 miles from the start, the trail splits and joins with the much longer Ameri-Trail that continues south along the creek. Stay on the Peach Creek Loop Trail heading east. In about 100 yards is the junction with the Yaupon Trail which heads generally towards the southeast for about a mile. The Yaupon Trail winds through a pine and palmetto forest, and is mostly a sandy singletrack trail with occasional muddy spots. It is a very easy and short trail. The trail crosses one park road with car traffic. The trail ends at 5-Mile Road, but the Logger's Loop Trail starts at the same point across the road. The Logger's Loop Trail is a doubletrack trail that is very straight, being an old logger's road, but also very easy and level hiking surface. Numerous trails veer off this trail towards the eastern part of the Park. We made our way out 2.9 miles on this trail and returned to the parking lot via the Forest Trail.
