This shuttle hike can be done in either direction. North to South will have a great net gain and steep hiking. This trip is described as South to North. Starting from Fox Gap on Route 191, cross the road and follow the Appalachian Trail (AT, white markers) north for .6 miles where there is a side trail to the Kirkridge shelter. From there, it is 1.8 miles along a rocky ridge to Totts Gap. After Totts Gap, the trail follows a forest road for 2 miles with nice views through the trees. The forest road ends at the top of Mt. Minsi where there is a great view point just before the end of the road. From here, the trail descends for about a half mile to a level area and another view point. In another .65 miles you will reach Lookout Rock. The trail descends again through thick mountain Rhododendron for 1 mile. Just before reaching the Mt. Minsi Fire Road, there is a spur trail that in narrow and difficult to see. This trail leaves the AT and is not marked. This will lead back to Resort Point along Route 611 where you should leave the shuttle vehicle.Overall, this route has some very rocky sections except for the forest road.
