There and Back
From the parking area at Arctic Valley Ski Area, head up the Rendezvous Peak Trail which winds up the valley and into the bowl. There are several side trails but stay on the main path for the easiest hike. The path is basically an old road following a stream bed. The grade of the trail gradually increases but is mostly moderate all the way to the ridge. Once on the ridge hook a right to head towards Rendezvous Peak. Here there are some steeper sections. Try to stay on the main trail that loops behind the ridge as it will make your life easier. From the summit of Rendezvous Peak you'll have amazing views of the Anchorage Bowl, Cook Inlet, Turnagain Arm, Fire Island, Mount Susitna, the Ship Creek and Eagle River Valleys, and on a nice day, even Denali. From the summit, head back down and at the junction continue straight on the Mt. Gordon Lyons Trail. This trail is a bit steeper and rockier than the last. The views are just as good as those from Rendezvous Peak. From there, head back into the saddle and return on the old road grade path back to the parking area.
