Description
A variety of short trails come together to create an extended loop system that runs through the entirety of Camano Island State Park. Opportunities to explore beach, marshland, coastal cliff-tops and old forests lie only minutes apart by foot. Whether you are staying at the Camano Island State Park Campground, or hanging out at the beach for an afternoon, you can find easy access to the trails from all over the park. A great place to start is Lowell Point on the south beach. From here, explore the shoreline a bit before heading across the parking lot to the 0.2-mile Marsh Trail. A short gain puts you up on the West Rim Loop Trail where some of the best views of the Saratoga Passage and Olympic Mountains are to be had. Keep cruising to make your way to the north end of the park. Here you will have the option to pick up the North Rim Trail and make your way over to Cama Beach State Park via the Cross Island Trail. Heading back south will send you through a quiet old forest along the Howard Adams Loop Trail before curving back around to reach the South Rim and more viewpoints. On a clear day, look beyond the twisting madrone trunks to spot Mount Rainier looming over the southern portion of Whidbey Island. To complete the loop, either walk the short distance of road back down to the south beach, or head up through the campground and down the Canyon Trail steps to the Lowell Point parking lot.
