This route begins at the trailhead off Sheather Road in the Burden Preserve, located in the Town of New Castle in Westchester County, NY. From the parking area, follow the Blue Trail into a quiet woodland setting before transitioning briefly onto the Pond segment near a small wetland area. Continue along the White Trail as it winds through gentle terrain, then follow the Purple Trail to a junction with the Red Trail. After a short stretch, connect with the Orange Trail to complete the loop and return to the starting point.
This well-marked route travels through a mix of shaded forest and open field, offering a peaceful setting ideal for birding or a light walk. Trails can be muddy or overgrown in places, so waterproof footwear is recommended. The combination of multiple color-marked segments creates a continuous loop that’s easy to follow without backtracking. The subtle terrain changes and seasonal pond make it a good option for short day hikes near Mount Kisco.
