Alaska State Park: $5 parking fee or annual pass.
Path Type
There and Back
Park in the Caines Head State Park parking lot which requires a $5 fee or annual pass. Proceed out the back of the lot uphill onto a private dirt driveway. The trail quickly splits left (follow the hiker sign) and heads down doubletrack until peeling right and uphill. All intersections are clearly labeled. After this, the trail is well-graveled with pretty stream crossings and rolling hills. A little over a mile in the trail starts heading downhill, switchbacking down to the creek below. At the bottom, the trail crosses the first of two bridges, with cool sections of boardwalk in between. Right around two miles, you'll see a pavilion, bear box, and outhouse for campers. Proceed a little further and you'll end up on the beach. Enjoy the view before you turn around and head back the way you came.Caines Head and cabins are further down the beach, and it's possible to continue on depending on the tides (low tide only).
