Adelmann Mine and Lucky Peak

Park at the Boise River Wildlife Management Area, just off Hwy 21. Parking is limited. There are no facilities or toilets at the trailhead or throughout the hike. To start the route, hike through the WMA buildings. The trail begins as an old doubletrack road through an open meadow, completely exposed, along a creek. In the springtime, the meadow is full of wildflowers. Around mile 3, you'll reach a trail junction. Continue right to check out Adelmann Mine with intact buildings and tucked into the hillside. Back at the trail junction, go straight uphill (left facing the trail junction) to Lucky Peak. Changing to overgrown singletrack through trees, the trail turns shaded and pretty. Throughout the hike, the trail is easy to navigate, not rocky, but very steep in some places.At mile four, the scenery changes to a true mountain forest. After passing through a couple of fence stiles, the trail changes back to a doubletrack road back into open space. After another half mile, you'll reach the Lucky peak summit. There's a radio tower and spectacular views of Treasure Valley and Boise National Forest, with plenty of picnic spots.From there, you can head back to the WMA trailhead making your hike an out and back. Or, you can explore some of the nearby trails to extend your hike.
