There and Back
This hike begins with the Old Zoo Trail off of the paved road next to the parking area for the Griffith Park Merry-Go-Round. Once on the dirt path, you'll hike eastward for 1/10 of a mile and pass a diverging trail on your right. Follow the second dirt path you reach on your right to continue along the Old Zoo Trail. The trail will climb gradually for a moment and then you'll be able to see Bee Rock to the west. The trail then continues through Spring Canyon, on the slopes of the old Griffith Park Zoo. You'll then cross a creek, which may or may not be flowing depending on the season, before reaching a 4-way junction with a paved road, the Mineral Wells Trail, and the Bee Rock Trail 9/10 of a mile from the trailhead. The Old Zoo Trail ends here and you'll join up with the Bee Rock Trail to continue the hike,The Bee Rock Trail heads northwest along a wide dirt road. After 1/4 of a mile of hiking, the trail becomes a narrower path that switchbacks its way to Bee Rock. After some steep climbing, you'll quickly arrive at the top of Bee Rock. Take some time to enjoy the view before returning to the Merry-Go-Round parking area and the original trailhead. Thanks to John McKinney, The Trailmaster, for sharing this trail description.
