Reavis Valley Trail #109 is a 34.2-mile out-and-back through the eastern Superstition Mountains. The trail begins near Apache Lake and winds its way south, passing through the historic ranch site of Elisha Reavis. It goes through areas with desert grassland, chaparral brush, and pinon-juniper woodland along with open valleys featuring flowing creeks, cottonwoods, and sycamore trees. The trail winds up and down crossing ridgelines and picturesque canyons featuring colorful geology. Some sections of the trail are rocky, rugged, and remote, and trail conditions may vary. Please contact the local land managers for the most up-to-date information about trail conditions before heading out.This is a moderately rated route with an overall elevation gain of 4,522'. The Reavis Valley Trail #109 is open to hikers, trail runners, backpackers, equestrians (mountain bikes are not allowed within the Superstition Wilderness).HISTORYElisha Reavis was a homesteader who settled in the area in 1874. This route passes right by the ranch he built. At the site of the ranch visitors can still find flowing water and a few apple trees remaining from an old orchard that was planted by Elisha.
