Founders' Grove Nature Trail

Be sure to examine the fallen redwoods, which give you a better sense of how truly massive these trees are. The standing trees are so big, it's hard to understand just how much mass is up there. Trees here are up to about 1,500 years old, and the Founders Tree is 346' tall!

Local citizens started getting concerned about the destruction of the redwoods in the 1930's and a group protected this area, and many others at that time. Much has been lost though - 95% of redwoods have been logged, and the 5% that remains is struggling with climate change.
