All the trails here are quite hilly, and if you find level ground, enjoy - it won't be that way for long! This forest is mostly second-generation forest of Douglas Fir and Redwoods. Ferns are incredibly abundant, and overall the lush green is deeply intense. It can be cold and moody in the fog or delightful as the sun filters through and dapples the forest floor.
The park was cobbled together by the city's purchase of 6 forest tracts in 1955, and additional tracts were added in 2006. Trail construction is of excellent quality and more trails continue to be added.
