There and Back
Starting at the west trailhead off Lansing-Edmond Rd. near Fern Creek, travel south along the trail through lush hardwood forests, crossing Fern Creek just before reaching the gorge rim. Along the trail, keep your eyes peeled for climber's access tunnels, identified by metal ladders leading down into sandstone caves. For the more adventurous, these access points provide an enthralling, albeit more strenuous addition to the hike. Bypassing the climbing access points, hike along the rim to the Diamond Point Overlook for stunning views of the !New River Gorge. Continue along the trail, peering through the trees to the !New River Gorge below, before eventually reaching the eastern parking area and the end of the trail. Hikers can either turn around at this point and follow the trail back to the western parking area, or hike 0.5 miles back to their car along the road.
