Point to Point
Behind the Endless Wall Trail, the hike to Long Point is considered the second most popular hike in the New River Gorge Recreation Area in West Virginia. The hike to the final viewpoint is approximately 1.6 miles and is a relatively easy hike with only 426 feet of elevation gain. The trail begins in a field behind a row of houses. The open field quickly turns into a thick, old-growth forest full of rhododendron for the rest of the hike. The hike sees relatively few visitors and is the perfect trail to find some solitude and enjoy the relaxing noises of nature. The final viewpoint is impressive to say the least. With a nearly 360-degree panoramic view, visitors are able to see the New River, the New River Gorge Bridge, drainage from Wolf Creek, and the extensive cliffs of the Endless Wall. On clear days, you may even be able to catch a glimpse of the railroad tracks that run along each side of the river. The final panoramic view with the New River Gorge Bridge looming in the distance is a beautiful sight. This viewpoint offers the best view of the awe-inspiring bridge and New River. Sunsets particularly enhance the view as the light reflects off of the bridge. The trail is short in distance and great in reward, making it the perfect trek on any visit to the New River Gorge area.
