Slick Rock Falls Trail #19

Despite being named for the Slick Rock Falls, the turn-off to the falls is only 100 yards onto the trail. The rest is mainly used as a climber access trail to the South Side area. Despite the utilitarian aspect, the trail is pretty in its own right. You start out on broad switchbacks up a steep face. After this short climb, you turn around the hill and eventually enter a rhododendron tunnel just before you meet up with the stream that feeds the Slick Rock Falls. Continue along upstream until you head up from the creek. You next enter a steeper section littered with rocks and boulders. Hop-scotch up the rocks for a last burst and you find yourself at the base of the 400' cliff. Some braided trails continue left from here but most of them peter out or get too difficult if you are not trying to get to a climb. Once you've admired the scenery and have enjoyed spectating some of the climbers in the area, simply return the way that you came to return to the trailhead.
