Village Trail

The Village Trail is a hiking and biking trail within Telluride Ski Resort. It begins from the Mountain Village Base Area and winds its way gradually up the mountain, eventually ending near the summit of Coonskin Mountain at the San Sophia Gondola Station. The free gondola does provide options for anyone looking to just hike the trail one direction, then catch a ride back. Alternatively, you can combine the Village Trail with another trail such as the Ridge Trail to form a loop hike. The easiest way to access the Village Trail is to park at the Gondola Parking Garage then walk the paved Boulevard Trail until the Village Trail Junction. Once on the Village Trail you'll begin to climb gently alongside Prospect Creek. The trail then merges with a paved road for a short distance before disappearing back into the woods. From here the Village Trail resumes climbing through some nice forest. You can tell the trail was designed with mountain bikers in mind in places, with long sweeping curves that are a bit annoying for hikers. Continue onward, with some great views of the mountains as you gain elevation. Near the top there are some more sweeping curves, but you can easily walk straight up the hill ignoring them.The trail then tops out at the San Sophia Station where you can catch the gondola back down, take a different trail such as the Ridge Trail, or simply return the way you came.
