Description
The Keystone Gorge Loop is a scenic, short loop hike just outside of Telluride, Colorado. The hike follows a small portion of the Galloping Goose Trail before diving down into the San Miguel River Gorge. The gorge offers beautiful hiking, mining remains, and a cool suspension bridge. Note that dogs and bikes are not allowed on the Keystone Gorge Trail. Begin from the trailhead on San Miguel River Road, just off Society Drive. Be sure not to park on the private property that is clearly signed here. You'll then follow the Galloping Goose Trail until you come to a junction. Turn right and cross the river via footbridge. This is the start of the Keystone Gorge Loop. The trail follows alongside the river as it rages down the canyon. Along the way you'll also come across some old mining ruins. The trail then crosses over the San Miguel River again at the lower end, via an impressive suspension bridge. There are also a couple picnic tables in this area making for a great break spot. You'll then climb out of the gorge and rejoin the Galloping Goose Trail. Follow the Galloping Goose back to the trailhead where you first began.
