The Lion and Chamberlain Loop is a moderately challenging hike located in Red Rock Canyon Open Space near Colorado Springs. This hike explores a portion of eastern Red Rock Canyon Open Space. This loop is about 3.5 miles long and gains over 500 feet of elevation. This hike starts from Hogback Valley Trailhead off of S 31st St. There are portable toilets available at the trailhead. Begin hiking uphill on Red Rock Rim Trail. After 0.2 mile, you will come to a junction. Turn right to stay on Red Rock Rim Trail. As you hike uphill, you will have a brief view of Garden of the Gods. After 0.2 miles, you will encounter 2 junctions. Go left at both junctions to stay on Red Rock Rim Trail. Another 0.1 miles of hiking will bring you to a junction. Go left onto Lion Trail. As you are hiking south, you will have views of some of the rock formations in Red Rock Canyon. You will also be able to see Pikes Peak in the distance. After 0.4 miles, you will encounter 2 junctions. Go right at the first and left at the second. Continue hiking uphill. Over the next 0.3 miles, you will pass 2 junctions. Turn left at the first and right at the second. Another 0.4 miles of uphill hiking will bring you to the highest point on the trail. Hike downhill for 0.2 miles to encounter a junction. Turn left onto 26th Street Trail. Stay on this trail for 0.4 miles before turning left onto Chamberlain Trail. You will follow this trail for 1 mile before turning right onto Red Rock Rim Trail and returning to the trailhead. Red Rock Canyon Open Space is open for hiking year round. There are no associated fees to hike here. Dogs are allowed on this trail, but they must be on a leash at all times.
