Description
The High Line is one of New York City's newest and most imaginative public parks. Open as a park since 2009, it reimagines an old section of railroad track that carried freight into Manhattan industrial neighborhoods from the 1930s through the 1980s. Though it can be quite crowded on weekends and on gorgeous days, the park still provides a wonderfully green escape from the city streets. The High Line runs from Gansevoort Street on the south end to 34th Street on the north end, from Chelsea to Hudson Yards, weaving back and forth between 10th and 12th Avenues. Along the way, you'll pass by art installations, playgrounds, overlooks, seating areas, cafes, and underpasses. Multiple entrances along the way provide ample opportunities to sneak down to street level and explore the city. An events calendar, volunteering information, background on all the art, the High Line's history, and much more can be found at the Friends of the High Line page.
