Description
HikerS can access this loop from several different trailheads, but the hike shown starts from Allison Park which overlooks the Hudson River. From the parking area, hike south toward Saint Peter's College on the Long Path, which you join from Allison Park. This trail travels along the college property and the Palisades Interstate Parkway. At times, the trail hugs the grass shoulder of the highway. After about a half mile, you reach the Henry Hudson Drive access road and the Dyckman Hill Trail, which is designated with yellow markers. Turn right onto this trail to follow the stone staircase/walkway down to the Hudson River. The Dyckman Hill Trail ends at the river and the Englewood Boat Basin. From here you can connect with the Shore Trail but you can connect with this trail at the right of the boat basin, right on the river. It is a wide trail with white markers. Follow the Shore Trail to the Ross Dock Picnic Area. Hike through the picnic area and stay to the right along the tree line. Just past the picnic area, you'll spot the Carpenter's Trail. This trail has blue markers and ascends the Palisades by a series of steep steps.Once on top of the Palisades, you'll rejoin the Long Path and turn right to head back to Allison Park. There are several viewpoints with great views of the George Washington Bridge.
