Description
This hike begins at the south end of the Alpine Picnic Area parking lot (note the stone restroom building). Take the Shore Trail (white markers) heading south. As the trail traverses the shore of the Hudson River it utilizes some old stone steps. Check out the beach as you can sometimes find river glass. After about 1.5 miles there is an old stone jetty for Huyler's Landing in the river; this jetty is a good reference point for the nearby trail junction. At the junction, take a right, leaving the Shore Trail behind and follow the Huyler's Landing Trail (marked with red blazes) as it follows the old farm road uphill. When the Huyler's Landing Trail meets Henry Hudson Drive, turn left (south) and continue along the road about 100 yards to where the red trail turns off the road and goes up the hillside to your right. Take red uphill to its intersection with the Long Path: Section 1(aqua markers).Turn right to take the Long Path: Section 1 north. Along the Long Path, you'll pass through "Millionaires Row"; foundations, driveways, and footpaths can be found in the woods along the path. The Long Path passes by Alpine Lookout where you can check out the views the Millionaires had. Eventually, the Long Path: Section 1 intersects with the Closter Dock Trail (orange markers) near the park office.Take a right to follow Closter Dock Trail; the trail goes through a small tunnel beneath Henry Hudson Drive. Continue following the orange markers as the Closter Dock Trail heads downhill on switchbacks, following the old Closter Dock Road. When the trail junctions, turn right (south) on the Shore Trail (white markers) to return to start of the hike.
