Point to Point
This moderate hiking route begins and ends at the Deer Road parking area in Texter Mountain Nature Preserve. From the trailhead, the route winds through a dense hardwood forest, crosses Harnish Run twice, and climbs over short ridges with uneven footing, exposed roots, and loose rocks. Side trails and old forest roads intersect at several points—stay on the main route to complete the circuit.
The preserve, managed for passive recreation in the Pennsylvania Highlands, features minimal infrastructure and a quiet, natural setting. Bird watchers and wildlife enthusiasts may spot migratory species in spring and fall. Wet weather can lead to muddy or slippery sections. With forest shade, shallow creek crossings, and rolling terrain, this is a solid choice for short day hikes near Reading or Lancaster.
