Begin this route at the Valley View Trailhead on Laurel Road, just southeast of the Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area Visitor Center. Head south on the Valley View Trail and, within the first half mile, connect with the Horse‑Shoe Trail. Turn right and follow it west through rolling hardwood forest. Continue across Seglock Road, then begin a gradual climb. At the top of the rise, meet an old road grade—turn right briefly, then left to reach the summit of Cannon Hill, a high point with filtered views. From the summit, descend south to reconnect with the main Horse‑Shoe Trail and turn left to begin the return leg. Roughly two-thirds of the way back, turn right onto Elders Run Trail, then left onto Middle Creek Trail. At its junction with the Horse‑Shoe Trail, turn left briefly, then make a quick right onto Explorer Trail to return to the trailhead.
Trail conditions vary, with muddy sections, creek crossings, and uneven surfaces common, especially in lower areas. Wildlife is abundant, and the area is especially active during seasonal bird migrations. This long, rolling route is best suited for experienced hikers seeking a challenging day in Pennsylvania Game Lands.
