Description
The Thunder Trails network is located just south of Norwood and offers 19 miles of hiking and biking opportunities. There are 4 different loops, and all can be connected to form longer hikes. Forest Road 609 provides access to the area. Do note that dirt bikes are allowed on these trails. The Naturita Rim Loop is the third loop in the trail system, and the second longest at 5.3 miles in length. There is limited parking where the loop crosses the forest road. The trail passes through pine forest and some small, open meadow areas. It is well marked with signage and arrows. The western side of the loop passes along the namesake rim of Naturita Canyon. The views aren't quite as stellar as you might expect, but you will have the occasional view including of prominent nearby Lone Cone Peak.Turn right after reaching the junction with the Portis Trail to return to the forest road and parking area.
