Description
The Thunder Trails network is located just south of Norwood and offers 19 miles of hiking and biking opportunities. There are 4 different loops, and all can be connected to form longer hikes. Forest Road 609 provides access to the area. Do note that dirt bikes are allowed on these trails. The Goshorn Loop is the fourth loop in the trail system, and the shortest at 3.9 miles in length. There is limited parking where the upper end of the loop crosses the forest road, and more parking at the bottom end of the loop. The Goshorn Loop may be the best loop in the Thunder Trails system. Being at the far end of the system means its less likely to be crowded, and the trail also offers a cool short section that passes between some rock outcroppings along the canyon rim.The trail spends most of its time beneath nice large ponderosa pines. The second half of the loop offers some views of Lone Cone Peak and the Naturita Canyon. The trail is well signed and easy to follow.
