Wilkinson Memorial Trail

The Wilkinson Memorial Trail (yellow markers) is a thru hiking trail traveling northeast and southwest in Hudson Highland State Park. The trail can be done in either direction with use of a shuttle car. Most people experience sections of the Wilkinson trail as part of several different loop hikes. The trail is seldom done as a thru hike. If traveling in a southwest direction, start from Old Albany Post Rd and walk down Resevoir Lane to a gate. Pass through the gate and the single track trail begins. It is well marked but few people travel this section so it can be a little overgrown. After 1.5 miles of a steep climb up, the trail pass the end point of the Fishkill Ridge trail.The next section is 2.25 miles is along the Scofield Ridge and has the most viewpoints on the trail. Descending the Scofirld ridge, passing the Casino trail, the Wilkinson trail meets with the Breakneck Ridge trail. About .5 miles after that, the trail crosses Squirrel Hollow Brook.The trail continues another 2.75 miles to the top of Sugarloag Mountain and several good viewpoints north and south of the Hudson River and Storm King Mountain. Another 1.2 miles of descent and the trail ends on Route 9D along the Hudson River and the Metro North Breakneck Ridge train station. Here is where your shuttle car would be parked.
